The Yaskawa Sigma II servo motors & drives were all new and at 1000 watts each, were overkill for such a small machine. Performance was awesome and the speed was detuned somewhat for safety and ball screw life. Likewise, the spindle drive is a Yaskawa 626 series closed loop vector drive utilizing a dedicated spindle encoder for ultra tight response to threading commands. The spindle motor driven by this drive is a high quality Swedish ABB 10 HP motor. This is a generous size for small part production, and also benefits the user with very quick braking times through the Yaskawa motor braking system. This retrofit was done “in house” by a dedicated full time electronics technician, on staff for 10+ years, with experience doing several retrofits. It was done right from the beginning and should serve someone well, if it’s properly suited to their needs.Test cuts were made in brass during testing of the retrofit
