What is a used Haas worth?

A used Haas is priced on six things: model and year, spindle hours, control generation, spindle and way condition, tooling included, and where the machine sits. Two identical VF-2s can differ by a third in price if one has 4,000 spindle hours and a Next Generation Control and the other has 22,000 hours and a pre-2015 control.

The six value drivers

  1. Model and year. Haas holds value unusually well because parts and service are everywhere and most machinists already know the control. Within that, late-model matters: buyers concentrate on machines roughly ten years old or newer.
  2. Spindle hours. The number buyers ask for first. Low hours on a ten-year-old machine is worth more than a newer machine that has run three shifts.
  3. Control generation. The Next Generation Control marks a real price break. Machines on older controls trade lower even at similar hours.
  4. Spindle and way condition. A previous spindle crash, or visible wear on the ways, changes the number more than age does. Be upfront — we find it during inspection anyway, and telling us early keeps the offer stable.
  5. Tooling and accessories. A tool package, a 4th-axis rotary, a probe, high-pressure through-spindle coolant, a chip conveyor. A Haas HRT or TR-series rotary included can move the price materially.
  6. Location and rigging. Ground floor with dock access costs less to remove than a machine down a ramp in a basement. This lands in the offer whether or not anyone says so.

What buyers look for by series

  • VF series — the deepest resale market of any Haas line. VF-2 and VF-3 move fastest.
  • UMC series — strongest demand of anything Haas makes right now, as shops move into 5-axis.
  • ST series — steady demand, especially ST-20 and ST-30 with tailstock and live tooling.
  • Mini Mill and TM series — fast-moving at lower price points; job shops and schools buy them.
  • EC series — thinner buyer pool, but the right buyer pays well for a pallet-changer machine.

Get an actual number

We do not publish a price list, because a real number needs the hours, the control and photos. Send those three things and we will come back within 24 hours with what we will pay, and what we think it would bring at auction. No obligation, and we will tell you if you are better off keeping it another year.

Yes, nationwide. Our headquarters and warehouse are in the Chicago area, which means Midwest sellers often see lower removal costs reflected in the offer, but we buy and rig across the country and export internationally (Canada, Mexico only for now).
